Rewarding Recycling great success is underpinned on the application of contemporary recycling methods resulting in citizens’ wide participation. ANTAPODOTIKI ANALYKLOSI utilizes the international experience whereby when a packaging materials system is based only on citizens’ voluntary participation in the recycling process, the attainable recycling quantitative objectives reach a certain level that cannot be exceeded no matter how much the packaging recycling system expands.
Therefore, experience worldwide has proven that the most effective way to preserve high participation levels in the recycling process is to offer incentives for the recycled packages. In this way, consumers are directly rewarded by the recycling process satisfying both their needs and their sensitivities. Through the reward incentive for the recovery of packages after use, consumers easily comprehend that empty packages are not litter but valuable materials. For this reason, citizens do not dispose of packages in the bin but promote them for recycling.
For this purpose and taking advantage of existing good practices at European level, Rewarding Recycling has made significant increase in the incentive offered to citizens for each metal, plastic and glass package “in the recycling houses”, since now they can earn 3 € cents per every 1 returning package. As a result, in the “recycling houses” our “packages” have value” and we earn 1 € with the return of 33 packages.
For the recovered glass, plastic and metallic (aluminum or tinplate) packages, being returned for recycling to the automatic machines of every Rewarding Recycling Center, a reward incentive is offered to recyclers.
After the recycling procedure completion, the consumer:
Either presses the green-color button of every machine, taking thus automatically a receipt with the total value of the reward incentive for recovered packages, used for purchases free of charge with cooperating stores.
Either presses the yellow-color button of every machine, taking thus automatically a receipt with the total value of the reward incentive for recovered packages, donated automatically for a social cause.
Many other offers may be given to consumers, such as competitions vouchers, promotions vouchers, vouchers for free of charge products etc.
